Dan Dan

So you're interested in how it all got started, huh? Well, it all started on a night, much like tonight, 28 years ago, when two men, thousands of miles apart, got very drunk and engaged in one of the most beautiful processes in nature, the reproductive act, with their wives. Then, nine months later, two young geniuses came into this world. These two boy-men grew up to be men-boys. Can you guess who these two young men were? Yep, you guessed correctly...Dan and Jeff, the visionary creators of "Eye of the Monkey". These two men-boys' paths crossed paths years later in high school and they became delightful acquaintances. This bond was tested several times, the most challenging of these tests occurred senior year when Dan refused to repay Jeff the money he owed him for a sock-hop ticket. But time heals all wounds. After a summer filled with heart wrenching contemplation, Jeff and Dan reunited at the University of Virginia and the same bond was re-bonded. After 1 1/2 uneventful years, Jeff and Dan decided to concentrate on publishing the best comic UVA, nay the world, has ever seen. We created a comic known as "Lord Hardwick's Comedy Theatre", a delightful and irreverant comic delight that caused quite a stir on campus...especially after our comic depicting the humorous historical event of Jesus punching Buddha. Needless to say the controversy caused the publishing newspaper, The University Journal, to fold later that week after 17 years. At the same time, this cataclysmic event propelled Dan and Jeff into the spotlight and endeared them in the hearts of UVA college students and faculty alike. After this devastating setback, lesser men would have rolled up into the fetal position and cried, but not Jeff and Dan. We took it all in stride, accepting that God was testing us, testing our strength and faith. We accepted this challenge and began our quest to see our vision brought back to life, much like Jesus came back to life. It became our mission to see that our comic would be seen by every man, woman, and child on earth, whether they wanted to or not. So we submitted our comic to the enlightened editors at the Cavalier Daily and were promptly accepted. After publishing for two years, alas, both Jeff and Dan graduated from UVA and went their separate paths. For 6 long, cold years, the world grew bitter and sad in the absence of "Eye of the Monkey" bringing laughter and mirth to the filthy peasant masses. This longness and coldness comes to an end in 2005 as the mystical "Eye" will blink once again under a new banner... And so this concludes the Genesis of "Eye of the Monkey"...
