About Us
What is cloven hand?

Cloven Hand is an independent webcomics community website. Our goal is to produce original comic book & comic strip content and publishing it for free. Unlike other people producing comics to make money, we are proud to bring different people with completely different skill sets together to produce new works that are greater than the sum of their parts... just for the love of it.

When and how did ClovenHand start?

After college, in the Fall of 2002, I worked in a café. One day I was just standing there at the counter and it came to me. Since I was already a web designer, it made sense to make the site myself. I gathered some of my friends together, and we started making comics. It was a very slow build--for the first couple of years nothing happened.

Finally, in February of 2005 we launched Hubris and What’s Really Going On Here!?, and since the site finally had something on it, I started promoting it. It wasn’t until I started looking for illustrators outside of my circle of friends that the site really started to take off.

Throughout the entire year of ’05 we’ve seen a steady growth in members and content, and I’ve even redesigned the site a few times. In the future I’d like to make this a link to a “history of Cloven Hand” timeline… we’ll let history build up a little bit first.

Why is this site called "ClovenHand"? Is there a story behind the name?

Long story, at some point I’ll write it out and post a link to it here.

Copyrights

If I submit something to ClovenHand does it become the property of ClovenHand?

Definitely not! In fact, not only do you retain the copyright to your work, but since it is being published under your name, it will reinforce your hold on the copyright because that can be used as proof in the case of future disputes.

Money
Will you give me money?

There is no money involved in ClovenHand.

How much does it cost to join?

There is no money involved in ClovenHand.

How much does it cost to read the comics?

Are you joking?

Troubleshooting

My image uploads aren't working right

There are at least 4 major bugs with the image upload utility I've built, and so I apologize. They are:

1) All black icons are from images that were slightly too large--3000 pixels is probably about the cut-off point, but it's more about file size than height and width.

2) The icons that show up as broken links are because they were GIFs instead of JPGs

3) Perfect squares have thumbs the same size as the originals

4) Using CMYK image mode JPGs causes the icons to look normal, but the full size images will show up as borken.

How We Work

I have an idea for a comic, how do I find someone to illustrate it?

Post in the forum or email ClovenHand@Gmail.com and you’ll be surprised what we can do to turn your idea into a comic!

I’m an illustrator, what can I do?

We’ve always got some unclaimed scripts waiting to be paired with illustrators, so post in the forum or email ClovenHand@Gmail.com and we’ll talk about it!

What are the submission guidelines?

Dono, it's different for everyone, but as we grow we are developing more of a rutine... I'll update this later.

Are ClovenHand projects for print or just online?

At the moment, ClovenHand is a completely web-based organization, however, years down the road, who knows.

Do I need to have my own comic in order to join or could I be an artist on other comics?

Nope, we take you as you are! It’s OUR job to find out how your talents are best used--and we look forward to it!

Content

Is there any form of censorship on ClovenHand?

No.

Oh, come on, there have to be some words or images that are off-limits, right?

We haven't found any so far.

What about thematic concerns, like comics that are greatly incongruent with the personal beliefs of the site's creators?

Well, let me put it this way, I'm a pacifist, and not only was I happy to have the comic "Revenge" on the site, but I participated in its creation. I'm sure there are plenty of comics you could choose to create that I might feel uneasy about splashing all over the front page, but that doesn't mean we won’t help you create them and add them to our comics page.
